About Transylvania County Transportation 

Our transportation program provides transportation for a variety of programs serving Transylvania County residents. Most of the Transportation is done within the County. Our services include General Public Transportation, Demand Response, Paratransit, Fixed Route, and Medical Transportation. For more information, please contact Transportation at (828) 884-3203, option 2.

  • Paratransit Passengers who are unable to care for themselves are encouraged to travel with a Personal Care Attendants or Companions (PCA). A PCA is not required to pay a fare. If a PCA will be traveling with a client, the transportation office must be notified at the time the reservation is made. For more information see below.

  • Service animals, not pets, are allowed on any county transportation vehicle.

Fixed Route Yearly Ridership

Fixed Route General Public Transportation

We now provide a Fixed Route that goes through Brevard and Rosman Monday-Friday from 6:30 am. to 4:30 pm. Currently the Fixed Route has a total of 22 stops in Brevard and 5 stops in Rosman. The van makes limited trips to Rosman, going through that area 3 times from 6:30 am to 6:45 am, 11:10 am to 11:35 am, and finally 4:10 pm to 4:25 pm. Each time you board the van it will cost $1.00, please pay with exact cash fare, the drivers cannot make change, and we do not accept credit or debit cards as payment. You are able to purchase passes from the van drivers or call the office and load up a number of rides on a pass. All passes are assigned specifically for that rider, if you do loose your pass please inform the office immediately so a new pass can be assigned to you. FIXED ROUTE MAP

Demand Response Public Transportation

The general public may ride the county vans at a cost of $1.00 per person each way within Transylvania County. General public transportation is for shopping trips, hair / barber appointments, employment, mail, bill payments, etc. for any individuals not involved with other agency programs. All requests for transportation must be made prior to 10:00 am at least one (1) workday in advance. General public hours of operation are 8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday with the exception of County holidays. Fares are expected to be paid upon boarding the vehicle.

Senior Adult Transportation

The County vans provide transportation for adults 60 years young or older throughout Transylvania County. These passengers are transported to Nutrition sites each weekday. The Nutrition sites that the county vans provide services to are the Quebec Community Center and Silvermont. The county vans also provide transportation services for these passengers to shopping centers, recreational centers, as well as financial and utility locations (post office, bill payments, etc.). Contact Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA) for additional information about about Nutrition sites and transportation to and from the sites.

Medical Transportation

In-county medical transportation is sponsored by Transylvania County as a community service to the County's citizens. This is a service for persons over the age of 60 or those who meet special eligibility requirements and have no other means of transportation. The goal is to provide round-trip transportation within the County for citizens who have scheduled appointments with doctors, outpatient services, dialysis, public health or other health related appointments. This service only provides transportation for scheduled medical appointments. This is not an emergency transportation service. To request additional information, call (828) 884-3203, option 2.

Transportation Advisory Board (TAB)

The Transportation Advisory Board meets quarterly in August, November, February and May.  Meetings are currently held in the Community Services Building 106 East Morgan Street, Brevard, NC 28712. To request additional information, call (828) 884-3203, option 2 or email [email protected].

A TAB is typically made up of stakeholders from the service area and is representative of the various target audiences in the service area; including one or more actual passengers of the transportation system.  An actively engaged TAB is expected to discuss unmet needs in the service area, service design, scheduling, billing rates and fares and monitor patterns of complaints about the transportation service.

Transportation Advisory Committee

The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) meets the 2nd Tuesday in January, April, July and October in the Multipurpose Chambers of the County Administration Building, 101 S. Broad St., Brevard at 6:00pm

Any citizen can attend a TAC meeting or apply to be appointed to the TAC which:

  • Reviews current road conditions, advising the County Board of Commissioners and the NC Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Participates in transportation project prioritization in Transylvania County as part of the North Carolina's State Transportation Improvement Program. (NC DOT Division 14).
  • Participates in the development of the County's Comprehensive Transportation Plan every five to ten years. The process of updating the Comprehensive Transportation has begun.
  • Considers alternate transportation projects including pedestrian, bicycling, and greenway trails.
