After a long search process, Transylvania County Manager, Jaime Laughter announced today that Jared Mull has been selected as the Parks and Recreation Director. Jared is currently serving with Transylvania County Parks and Recreation as the Recreation Program Manager and will now replace previous Director Carleen Dixon who left in November. Jared came to Transylvania County Parks and Recreation in 2015 with 5 years of experience all within North Carolina serving in the City of Kannapolis and Mecklenburg County.
Mull is a native of Transylvania County graduating from Brevard High School. He attended Southern Wesleyan University where he received his Bachelors in Recreation in 2008. He continued his education at High Point University and received a Master’s in Sports Studies / Recreation Management in 2010.
Through the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association (NCRPA), Jared has received certifications such as Certified Park & Recreation Professional and was named the NCRPA Young Professional of the Year in 2014 and selected to be a Presenter at the 2018 NCRPA Programmer’s Summit.

Jared has the professional and educational background combined with a genuine love for this community that make him the right candidate to help realize a thoughtful and meaningful impact of Parks and Recreation in Transylvania County.”
When asked his thoughts about stepping up into the Director position, Jared said” I'm looking forward to working closely with Jaime Laughter, County Commissioners and our Park and Recreation Commission on continuing to make progress with our department's master plan. I'm fortunate to already have a great team at both the Recreation Center and Silvermont that care about providing great programs and events for the community. I'm also looking forward to working alongside a great group of county maintenance employees that do a great job of making park and facility improvements. I love this county and I can't wait to serve the great people that live here in my new role.”
Jared and his wife Jennifer have a 11-month-old daughter Madelyn and a 7-year-old boxer named Max. Mull will begin his new role immediately.
