On July 12, 2021, the Transylvania County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint James “Jay” H. Taylor, III as the full time Special Counsel to the Department of Social Services. Commissioners reached this decision based on the recommendation of a selection committee who interviewed the most qualified candidates for the position. Based on the county’s structure, Mr. Taylor as Special Counsel will work under the management of County Manager Jaime Laughter.
Mr. Taylor graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in English, earned a M.S. in Biology from East Carolina University and his Juris Doctorate from Tulane University of Law. In addition to practicing in private law firms, Taylor’s experience includes serving as Deputy County Attorney for Henderson County Social Services.
Taylor says, “I look forward to bringing my experience to and working with the Transylvania County Department of Social Services. New beginnings are always an adventure, and I am delighted to meet the dedicated employees who work with families and children in our community. I will be available and will strive to make their job easier.”
Mr. Taylor will begin his work in Transylvania County on July 26th.
