Jason Stewart of Richmond, Virginia has been chosen as the Planning and Community Development Director for Transylvania County.
Stewart attended Virginia Tech and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Policy. His professional work includes a variety of local government roles such as: Town Manager, County Planner and Assistant City Manager/Director of Community Development. Most recently he served as the Director of Community Development for Fluvanna County, Virginia where he was responsible for Planning, Building and Economic Development Departments.

Jason brings diverse professional experience which will benefit Transylvania County and our citizens as we work to lay the foundation for our community’s future. He will be a great asset to the county team”, said Jaime Laughter, County Manager.
One of the first tasks Stewart will undertake is to integrate the Transportation Department with the Planning and Community Development Department. This will allow the County to take advantage of opportunities to provide more robust services and operations for transportation and planning. Jason will be involved with county initiatives that utilize his diverse work experience, including workforce housing, water and sewer infrastructure, transportation, small area planning, and floodplain management, as well as on initiatives with Transylvania Economic Alliance on behalf of Transylvania County.
"I look forward to working with all of the staff, citizens, Planning Board and elected officials of Transylvania County to help build on past successes while planning for a bright future," said Stewart.
Mr. Stewart will join the Transylvania County Planning and Community Development in early July.
