What is your address and hours of operation?

The Transylvania County Register of Deeds is located at 20 E Morgan Street Suite 2, Brevard NC. Our hours of operation are 8:30 am until 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, except for county observed holidays. This is also our mailing address.

Can anyone access information recorded in the Register of Deeds office?

Yes, all records filed in the Register of Deeds office are public records and available to anyone. The only records with restricted access are military discharges due to the sensitive nature of these documents.

Who can obtain a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate?

Since all documents filed in the Register of Deeds office are public record, anyone may view or obtain a copy of these records. However, only the individual, their immediate family member (mother, father, step parent, child, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild), an authorized agent, or legal representative may obtain a certified copy of a vital record. These documents can be purchased in person,online, or through the mail. For more information, please visit our Vital Records tab or call the office at 828-884-3162.

How can I obtain my birth certificate if I was not born in Transylvania County?

The Transylvania County Register of Deeds office can issue copies of birth certificates from the Statewide Birth Database maintained by the North Carolina office of Vital Records in Raleigh. Through this system we are able to issue birth certificates for persons born in all counties of North Carolina from 1971 forward. The fee is $24.00. This is an in person service ONLY. This service cannot be obtained online.

Please note that you cannot use this system if:

• the individual was born prior to 1971
• you don't have correct birth facts (name, birth year, mother's maiden name)
• the individual was adopted
• if you want a photo copy of the certificate instead of a certified copy
• the individual's birth was registered as a delayed birth registration (more than one year after the fact of birth)

Can I obtain information about my divorce in your office?

No, divorces are court related matters and are therefore kept by the Transylvania County Clerk of Court. Their phone number is 828-885-3000.

Can I record a Will or obtain information about Estates & Probate in your office?

No, these records are court related matters and are therefore kept by the Transylvania County Clerk of Court. Their phone number is 828-885-3000. 

Can your records be accessed online?

Public access via the internet to our Real Estate records can be found by using our online lookup https://search.transylvaniadeeds.com/.

Access to these public records is also available in person at the Register of Deeds Office in our Record Room from 8:30a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

How quickly will my online certificate purchase get processed and mailed to me?

We process each request within 1 business day as long as all information is provided along with a valid ID and payment. 

Can I get a business license in your office?
