Notice is hereby given that the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on proposed revisions to the Mountain Ridge Protection Ordinance of Transylvania County. The primary purposes of the ordinance are to ensure that construction of structures greater than 40’ on protected mountain ridges is safe and to protect the County’s scenic beauty. After extensive review, the Planning Board is proposing a number of changes: 1) to update the definition of “protected ridge” to meet NC General Statute; 2) to update the map to include more accurate GIS data and information that is now available; 3) to delegate the Planning Board as the final permit review body, as opposed to the County Commissioners; 4) to better define “Dunn’s Rock”; and 5) to incorporate other changes to make the ordinance easier to read and to be consistent with other land use related ordinances enforced by the Planning and Community Development Department.

Copies of the draft ordinance are available in the Office of the Clerk to the Board, County Administration Building, 101 S. Broad Street, Brevard, weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and in the Office of Planning and Community Development, 106 E.
