The primary purpose of the Animal Services program is the control of rabies.

 

******2008 Rabies Vaccinations Schedule May 3, 2008******

ENFORCEMENT OF STATE AND LOCAL ORDINANCES IS PROVIDED THROUGH:       

  •         Operation of the county animal shelter; 
  •         Humane disposition of diseased and unwanted animals;
  •         Development of a rabies control program in cooperation with veterinarians;
  •         Investigation of cruelty and nuisance complaints and
  •         Educational presentations about pet care and control.

 SPECIFIC SERVICES

  • Picking up stray and unwanted animals;
  • Confinement of biting animals, as required by law;
  • Investigation of cruelty and nuisance complaints;
  • Educational presentations about proper pet care and  animal control ordinances, local media releases and announcements;
  • Conducting annual reduced cost clinics for rabies vaccination;
  • Removal of dead animals from city streets;
  • Routine patrolling of the community for violations.
