COUNCIL ON AGING (TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY)

 

 

 

Purpose:               Advisory to Land-of-Sky Regional Council; serves as an advocate for interests of all older adults in Transylvania County; brings existing programs, services and activities to the attention of agencies, organizations and citizens; creates awareness of existing and potential problems, and promotes and develops new programs to help meet these problems

                                 -  Established by Resolution 187-91 (08/12/91) and amended 12/13/99, 05/13/02 and 08/12/02

Membership:        15 members and 2 ex officio members.  Members serve a 3-year term (staggered), 2-term limit (after any partial term is complete, or extended if a waiver of the 2-term limit has been granted); terms expire in August.  The chairman shall serve on the Area Council on Aging and is appointed annually by the board of commissioners.  The Senior Tar Hell Delegate is elected by the Tar Heel Legislature in January, for a term of two years.

Meetings:              The Council on Aging meets the fourth Monday of the months of January, March, May, July, September and November at 3:30 pm in the DSS Conference Room.
